Kylo Ren, born Ben Solo, is a character introduced in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. He is the apprentice of Supreme Leader Snoke, the son of Han Solo and Leia Organa, a warlord of the First Order, and a master of the Knights of Ren.
History[]
Several years before the rise of the First Order, Ben Solo was sent to his uncle, Luke Skywalker, in order to train in the ways of the Jedi. However, for reasons unknown, Ben led an assault on the Jedi Temple that Luke used to teach, thus causing him to be put into self-imposed exile.
After that, he was brought to Supreme Leader Snoke, who had been secretly manipulating the boy to become his apprentice. He later joined the Knights of Ren, a secret society who worshipped the dark side. He took the name Kylo Ren and was selected by Snoke to command the First Order in their plan to take over the galaxy.
Many years later, Kylo would be tested by a scavenger named Rey, who proved naturally strong with the Force, but was untrained. He would clash with the girl as the First Order searched for the pieces of the map to Luke Skywalker, which were in the hands of the Resistance.
In an effort to sever his bond with the light side, he murdered his father, Han Solo, aboard Starkiller Base. This prompted Chewbacca to shoot him with his bowcaster, injuring him.
He would confront Rey and the traitor, Finn, on the snowy surface of the superweapon. Using his unique lightsaber, he critically wounded Finn, but lost the duel to Rey, who destroyed his lightsaber and left a scar across his face. He was later brought to Snoke, who finally agreed to complete his training.
